A meeting with representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce in Azerbaijan was held at the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population (VIDEO)
A meeting with representatives of the American Chamber of Commerce in Azerbaijan ("AmCham Azerbaijan") was held at the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan. At the meeting, the minister of labour and social protection of population Salim Muslumov noted the importance of active and effective cooperation between government agencies and business structures, and stated that such meetings with the organization are organized periodically on the basis of successful cooperation between the ministry and "AmCham Azerbaijan". The minister underlined that the non-oil sector continues to grow on the basis of the diversification of the national economy, as one of the important achievements of socio-economic policy of the President of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev. "This success is based on the positive results of complex measures aimed at improvement of business and investment environment, transparency of business environment, protection of rights and interests of entrepreneurs, covering the technical, financial, legal, methodological and other support. 4.3 times increase of entrepreneurship entities over the past 15 years and exceeding 80 percent of the share of private sector in economy, on the other hand, enabled this sector to strengthen its role in opening new jobs, the labour resources to reach 75.4 percent in the share of employment of labour resources in the country. The share of those working in the non-state sector in the number of hired workers in the national economy has reached 41.6 percent". S.Muslumov brought to the attention that in accordance with the initiative of the President of Azerbaijan, the regulation of debts on compulsory state social insurance has recently been one of the measures aimed at supporting entrepreneurship: "Establishing a joint mechanism of cooperation between the government and trade unions and employers' organizations in the implementation of state policy in the field of labour and employment in our country is of particular importance. The Tripartite Commission on Social and Economic Affairs in Azerbaijan in September 2016 has developed a successful business experience in the field of assessment of the current state of the labor market and its future prospects based on the principle of tripartism. It is no coincidence that this experience has been regarded as an example of best practice by the International Labour Organization and has been recommended for countries in the region. The active participation of "AmCham Azerbaijan" in the activities of that Tripartite Commission, labour market regulation, protection of legitimate interests of labour market participants, giving a business position and suggestions regarding the solution of issues relevant to the priorities in the General Collective Agreement is praiseworthy". Noting the importance of business meetings with "AmCham Azerbaijan" in the past period, the minister said that each of these meetings was important in terms of exchange of information and discussions, answers to questions from business entities, and the study of ideas and suggestions on relevant issues: President of "AmCham Azerbaijan" Nuran Kerimov underlined that they are pleased with the formation of active cooperation between the Chamber and the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of Population, as well as organizing joint business meetings that allow constructive dialogue. He underlined the importance of reforms in carried out in the field of labour and social protection, including the transition to the electronic registration system of labour relations, as well as transparency of social insurance relations in the electronic environment, the creation of new insurance mechanisms for unemployment, and the steps taken to improve the labor legislation. Separate representatives of the Chamber also spoke about the importance of ensuring the legitimate interests of the labour market participants, including the support of entrepreneurship and the work carried out towards regulation of debts on compulsory state social insurance premiums. They expressed their gratitude for organizing such meetings, which give good opportunity for mutual exchange of information and discussion. At the meeting, representatives of business organizations were informed about the reforms in the field of labour and social protection, as well as the new changes applied in the relevant legislative acts, and their questions were answered. It was also spoken about the work carried out to improve the labour legislation, as well as proposals on labour legislation within the framework of the "White Paper on Monitoring and Implementation of Business Environment in Azerbaijan" prepared by the Chamber was discussed in detail.
