A meeting Mrs.Mercy Tembon, the World Bank's Regional Director for the South Caucasus, who is on a visit to our country was held at the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Minister of labour and social protection of population Salim Muslumov emphasized that the program of purposeful reform of the President of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev created conditions for the continuation of the growth rate on the basis of successful diversification of the economy in our country.
The minister said that the processes characterizing sustainable economic development in the country are conditioned by the acceleration of positive trends in the labour market.
S.Muslumov brought to the attention the reforms carried out towards human capital development, increasing the competitiveness of the existing workforce, as well as adaptation of qualified personnel to labour market requirements, in line with the "Strategic Road Map for the National Economy Perspective of the Republic of Azerbaijan" approved by the relevant Decree of the Head of State. The minister noted the steps taken to strengthen the social protection system focusing on socially vulnerable groups in our country, emphasized that the system has a broad scope and its role in poverty reduction is highly valued by the World Bank.
Noting the introduction of the unemployment insurance system in our country has begun from the beginning of the current year, the minister stated that this system has enabled a substantial expansion of active labor market programs, including self-employment measures, and flexible vocational training opportunities in line with labor market requirements.
At the meeting, S. Muslumov also informed about the work carried out in the republic in the field of implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals on the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development until 2030.
The minister also brought to the attention the labour market reforms were in line with these goals and focused on the development of the inclusive labour market and the measures aimed at increasing the employment of young people and women.
Mrs.M. Tembon noted that along with successes in the economic field in our country, the development of human capital, improving social welfare, regulating the labour market and achieving significant improvements in employment, the successful reforms carried out were welcomed by the World Bank. Speaking about the importance of automated systems in the field of labour and social protection, medical and social expertise and rehabilitation in Azerbaijan in recent years, M.Temban emphasized that the establishment of targeted state social assistance system on electronic infrastructure allowed achieving significant results such as ensuring targetedness and transparency in this system, complete elimination of negative situations.
At the meeting, it was exchanged views on the World Bank's Economic Growth Restoration Program in Azerbaijan, Diagnostics of Workplaces, the planned activity on poverty assessment, future directions of cooperation between the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population and the World Bank were discussed.
