A friendly match on boccia in 4 categories between the national teams of Azerbaijan and Turkey consisting of young people with disabilities was organized in Baku. Minister of labour and social protection of population Salim Muslumov, Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Erkan Ozoral, president of Azerbaijan National Paralympic Committee Ilgar Rahimov, MP, president of the Azerbaijan Kickboxing Federation Adil Aliyev and others attended the event.
Speaking at the event, S. Muslumov underlined that in accordance with the instructions of the President of Azerbaijan, Mr Ilham Aliyev concerning persons with disabilities, scale of measures aimed at rehabilitation and integration into society of persons from this category has been expanded. Noting the Paralympic movement was also widespread in our country thanks to active sports policy, the minister brought to the attention the importance of engaging in sports in improving the rehabilitation and integration capabilities of persons with disabilities, the work carried out in this direction is consistently supported by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Population.
S.Muslumov said that the Boccia sport, which has been included in the Paralympic Games since 1984 and widely spread in recent years in our country, is also important from this point of view. Because this type of sport helps both physically and mentally, it is very beneficial to organize regular boccia competitions among persons with disabilities. All facilities have been created at the Vocational Rehabilitation Center for Young People with Limited Health No. 1 of the Ministry for those who are engaged in sports, Boccia will have the opportunity to stay and provide the necessary services and training.
The minister also brought to the attention that in our country there are teams of young people with limited health, as well as boccia teams for children, who successfully participate in various competitions on boccia, including international tournaments. At present, more than 100 wheelchair users in 5 categories are engaged in this sport. S.Muslumov stressed that within the framework of the relevant program, the conditions were created for mutual participation of young people with limited health from two countries in vocational rehabilitation activities. To this end, the Vocational Rehabilitation Center for Young People with Limited Health No. 1 has started sending young people with limited health to a fraternal country in the form of separate groups. Of course, this also serves to increase rehabilitation and integration opportunities of those young people. This friendly match between the national teams of the two countries organized on
boccia is very important from this point of view.
